Community Engagement
Beyond academia, I actively contribute to community initiatives that support gender equality and migrant communities. I currently serve as Director of Partnerships and Development (Australia) for the Asian Women Development Plan International (AWDPI)
Building Cross-Sector Partnerships
As Director of Partnerships and Development, I facilitate collaboration between AWDPI and external partners, including universities, student organisations, and community groups. These partnerships help create platforms where academic research, public discussion, and community initiatives can intersect.
Through this work, I have established collaborations with several university student associations in Melbourne and supported the development of joint events that bring together students, researchers, and community leaders.
Public Events and Community Dialogue
A core part of my role involves organising and moderating public events that encourage open dialogue on issues affecting Asian women and migrant communities.
I have organised and moderated a cross-sector panel on Asian women’s leadership as part of Monash Arts Creative Directions 2025, bringing together speakers from government, academia, and community organisations to discuss leadership, representation, and social change.
These events aim to create spaces for meaningful conversations between scholars, practitioners, and community members while highlighting the experiences and perspectives of Asian women in Australia.
Film Screenings and Public Awareness
I also coordinate a series of community film screenings and discussions addressing domestic violence and gender equality in both Melbourne and Sydney.
These events involve identifying relevant films, organising public discussions, and inviting legal professionals and community advocates to speak about domestic violence laws and support systems in Australia. By combining film with expert commentary and audience dialogue, these events create accessible entry points for public engagement with complex social issues.
Media and Public Outreach
To expand the reach of these initiatives, I coordinate media engagement and outreach activities with multicultural media organisations. These collaborations have resulted in coverage from outlets such as ABC Chinese and SBS Chinese, helping to bring issues related to gender equality and migrant women’s rights into broader public conversations.
Through event promotion and community engagement campaigns, these initiatives have successfully reached diverse audiences and strengthened connections between community members, advocacy groups, and public institutions.
